Mothersday was tomorrow and I knew the gift was perfect. I grabbed what was left of the aquamarine and began splatter painting the white canvas. As I neared the end of the gift, I felt an overwhelming sense of gratification, love, and happiness. I had the best mom in the world and no one could compare. almost every child says this about there parents and none of them are wrong. Our parents have sacrificed dreams and countless hours for us. Through this pandemic, my parents never got a chance to rest. Working long hours both night and day to help me sit here and write this post about them. It never ceases to surprise me how love and compassion parents give their children.

The next day came the rain and a bitterly cold wind. I walked outside to see my dad in the garage. The rain had started to heavily fall on the gas pump, making pound ringing noises across the yard. I asked him if he wanted to come inside, my sister had made dinner for us and it was finished. He gazed up from my mother's old Vespa and smiled. He had been working countless days for the one to just run for her and had gotten to that point. We came inside to the kitchen and celebrated a warm meal as a family gathered around the tv for an evening in.

Preparing for finals has always been a struggle for me. I would focus on a subject too long and another not enough. I sat typing out a final exam essay and I looked to my left. My cat sat there promptly watching my love the mouse and type away at my computer. She stretched her paws and just stared politely back at me, waiting either for food or a scratch. To the right, I looked to see her brother curled into a tight ball asleep in the armchair.  I shook my head and laughed. At least one of them cared about my exam.

The next morning came with an early start. I had an exam that started directly at 8 and I wanted to prepare my computer for the test. I crawled out of bed, stumbling down my ladder to the floor and eventually over to my desk. I grabbed my sister's computer and flipped the switch. My computer sat in the corner, somewhat working, but not at the capacity needed. I walked down the hall and spend the curtains to see fresh morning dew and robins hopping on the grass. It was nearly within 5 seconds of opening the certain to having him gazing up at the world. His tail flicked with amusement as birds moved about his field of view. I grabbed my camera and shot the best possible angle.  Leave it up to my cats to get me through finals.

I wanted to thank everyone for all their feedback throughout this difficult time. I wish all the best to you in your lives as you move on from BG. For those that are returning, I can not wait to see your photos and wish you the best summer possible.

Thank you!

  1. I love looking at your images and I love being able to read the writings that you have attached to your images. It was interesting seeing your work move from nature to things that are more personal to you and your life. All of your images perfectly depict the things that are currently going on in your life.

My practice drastically changed once going into quarantine. I found it very difficult to have any motivation once being home all the time. This is especially because I was mainly photographing people. I was no longer able to photograph people in the same way, and ended up mainly photographing my brother in different metroparks in the Toledo area. This proved to be a challenge  as I could no longer shoot on film either, and my dslr stopped working a week into quarantine. This led to most of my photos being phone pics. With these limitations I tried to play off of weird projects I already had been doing. My photos for mom series are literal phone pictures I have always taken for my mom of my brother and I doing weird things in parks. This also drew off of my idea to make eye-spy type pictures of my brother and I hiding in the trees. The last of my film photos are also stuck as edited TIFFs. I was unable to download photoshop as my laptop has no storage, and the files were too big for...

Over the course of quarantine my style of photography hasn't really changed all that much. Taking photos is always something I have done by myself. It is something that I can be alone with my thoughts and enjoy an activity. This allows me to still social distance while taking photos. I usually walk alone when I take photographs so I felt right at home. I think it actually helped me take photos because of the lack of people around I felt like I have more opportunity to go to places that are normally full of people and can be difficult to take photographs in.
roommates mariah and I worked on portraits which is not something in my comfort zone
